Shifting Into Wholeness
By Beth Burns
As a coach in the profession of life success and business coaching, I have
the same objective as a sports coach -- to win! I want to see my clients
function optimally on a consistent basis so that they are the champions of
their lives.
In order to do that, we partner on a plan -- supporting you to make
permanent changes. A brief change in behaviour is never enough to make it all
the way to the championship. Winning a few games does not necessarily make a
championship season. Compare it to going on a crash diet ... one can lose some
weight, but does he/she make lasting health changes? Not likely! The way to
lose weight is to change your eating habits and exercise each day. Then,
gradually, it just becomes a healthy way of life. Eventually, it is almost
effortless. That's a shift!
It's the same with anything else that is a worthy endeavour. It takes time,
a sensible plan, dedication and discipline to make it happen.
My role as your coach is to support you in making the lasting changes that
you want in your life. We work on "the sensible plan" first and then on the
dedication and discipline to make it happen. To do this, we focus on "who" you
are instead of "what" you do. When one does this, he/she can begin the shift
into wholeness. This is the cornerstone of true self-esteem! For example,
let's compare some of the "who" examples verus some of the "what" examples.
| WHO I AM |
WHAT I DO |
| |
|
| I am healthy versus |
I am dieting and exercising. |
| I am successful versus |
I work as a law enforcement officer. |
| I am a great parent versus |
I help out with the kids. |
| I am a spiritual being versus |
I attend religious services. |
| |
|
The change is an INTERNAL one (who I am) instead of an EXTERNAL one (what I
do). It's growth. As you begin to be aware of your language (especially to
yourself) and as your perspective changes, you will find yourself shifting
into a new place of wholeness. What you DO matters a lot less than who you
ARE. What you do is temporary -- who you are is permanent.
Wholeness is that rich, vibrant part of yourself. It's the core of your
being that is free of self-limiting behaviours. It's that sacred part of
yourself that
knows you are worthy, by virtue of being just who you are. Wholeness is the
understanding that YOU make a difference and what you do is merely a small
part of that.
Who are you right now and who do you have to be to be whole? Let's begin
today and you can become the champion in your life!
